State EV Rebates: Save Thousands When You Go Electric

Colorado offers generous state electric vehicle (EV) rebates to help households replace older, high-polluting vehicles with cleaner, more affordable electric options. If you qualify, you could receive up to $9,000 toward a new EV or $6,000 toward a used one.

Who Is Eligible?

You may qualify for these rebates if your household income is below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for the county where you live.

Vehicle Trade-In Requirements

To receive the rebate, you must trade in an older or high-emitting vehicle that meets all of the following conditions:

  • The vehicle runs on gasoline or diesel
  • It is operational
  • It is 12 years or older (for example, model year 2013 or older for a 2025 application) or it has failed a Colorado emissions test
  • It is currently titled in Colorado
  • The name on the vehicle title matches the rebate applicant

How Much Can You Receive?

Eligible Coloradans can receive rebates for new or used electric vehicles, including both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

  • New electric vehicle: up to $9,000
  • Used electric vehicle: up to $6,000

Note: Vehicle leases must be for a minimum of two years to qualify.

Why This Matters

Electric vehicles cost less to fuel and maintain, reduce air pollution, and help cut climate pollution. These rebates make EVs more accessible for households looking to save money while driving cleaner.

Old or high-emitting vehicles that are eligible to trade-in for an EV rebate must meet the following requirements:

  • Operational gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicle
  • Model year is 12 years or older (e.g., model year 2013 or older for a 2025 application) or vehicle fails a Colorado emissions test
  • Vehicle is currently titled in Colorado and the applicant name matches the name on the title.

Eligible Coloradans can receive the following rebate amounts for a qualified electric vehicle purchase or lease (note: a lease term must be a minimum of two years):

  • New electric vehicle (BEV or PHEV): $9,000
  • Used electric vehicle (BEV or PHEV): $6,000
